Please be aware there has been a few ‘snap-lock’ burglaries in North Lincolnshire, particularly in the rural areas, that we would like to bring to your attention.

These burglaries are unusual whereby instead of a burglar forcing entry by breaking a window, they apply force to the door lock and simply snap the cylinder in two.

It is prevalent with euro cylinder locks, which are mainly fitted to upvc and other double glazed doors, such as conservatory doors.

The method of lock snapping involves breaking the cylinder to then manipulate the lock to open. You may think that all the multi locking points on your door make it secure, however they are all operated by the cylinder – this is the weakest point and if compromised, all the locking points are useless.

The website below has some information about lock-snapping and how to prevent this method and anti-snap locks:

In general, also please be aware in these situations to keep access to your vehicle secure.

The simplest way in these situations is to keep your keys secure – remember to always keep your keys in a safe place at all times.
